The Korean Girl Group know on the internets as Kara actually started out as a 4 person R&B group, with Kim Sung Hee as the lead singer. Then the group then made a comeback as a tween group with Kara - Pretty Girl and Kara - Rock U, and has now finally found an identity that fits as a young adult group with 5 members, two of them new. So what happened to Kim Sung Hee? There is not a whole lot of information on this, it is reported that she is currently attending the Han Yang Girls' University. She was apparently forced to leave on her fathers demand that her school work was suffering. The girls in Kara, are all between the ages of 15-22, so clearly many of them are still in school. Also there from South Korea, not the US. There are different attitudes towards performing and school, and also different expectations of girls and different expectations of what will lead to the most success and wealth.
Kim Sung Hee was the lead vocalist for Kara. With the loss of the lead, that usually spells disaster for any group or band. Kim Sung Hee has had the most powerful voice of any of the Kara girls to date and many fans miss her. However, with the loss of Kim Sung Hee, this allowed for a re-branding of Kara. The first thing the record company did was make the quintuplet a 5 girl group with the addition of Koo Ha Ra and Kang Ji Young.

According to a press release:
Kara debuted in the K-pop industry in March 2007 with the release of their first album The First Blooming. Promotions ended in the summer of 2007. Because of their similarity to Fin.K.L and the fact that both were under the same company, the two were often compared to each other; in response, Kara stated that they wanted to work hard enough to deserve the comparison.
The group was scheduled to have their comeback in March 2008 with their second album. However, Kim Sunghee left the group suddenly due to parental pressure, as her participation in the group was contingent on the maintenance of her grades. She failed to pass her college entrance exam, and as a result, she was forced to leave the group. In response, DSP stated that the second album would be shelved and replaced by a mini-album to come in May; in addition, two members would join the group, chosen through public auditions, to be chronicled by music television station M.Net.
The two new members were eventually revealed to be Gu Hara and Kang Ji-young; their comeback was on July 24, 2008, two months after scheduled.Anyway, if you want to see Kara, back when they were a quintuplet, check out the two videos below. If U wanna and b
